The Mission

Street Widows Foundation aspires to dismantle the stigma surrounding street-related death/grief including but not limited to gun violence, drug overdose and long term incarceration . We envision a future where street-widowed women find immediate support through emergency resources and safe spaces to seek healing and empowerment. We aim to build a future where every child being raised by a street widow reaches their full potential as a result of their parent/guardian being supported along the unique journey of life after a traumatic loss.

Our Fundamental Beliefs

The best way to guide a lost person is to meet them where they are. We entertain to meet, we empower to guide.

No amount of community programming can surpass the influence of the home environment. In order to truly impact our youth it is critical to support their mothers.

Every individual who experiences loss is entitled to compassionate care and assistance.

Street Widows are a necessary population to be served through Community Violence Intervention (CVI) efforts.

Our Founder

Hi everyone, I'm Ashlee the founder of The Street Widows Foundation. I am a Louisville native, a two-time WKU alumnus, and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. I lost my husband, Tiwuan, to gun violence on February 19, 2020. At the time, I was 29 years old with an 8-month-old daughter and a 3-year-old son.

Street Widows began as a docu-series concept turned podcast. As I met more women, and traveled my own journey of widowhood I realized the large gap in services for widows, especially young widows. I yearned to do something about it, and as a result the Street Widows Foundation was born.

How to Connect

Street Widows Monthly Meetings are the last Wednesday of each month. While we focus on young widows navigating stigmatized loss such as gun violence, drug overdose and long term incarceration, all widows are welcome to our space. Visit our Facebook page for details & to RSVP.
